Toplight#

Toplight is an overhead lighting system that illuminates the upper surface of the part directly from above, enhancing texture and surface details. It is the recommended option when the application requires recognition of features visible on the top face of the component.

All Toplight variants share the following characteristics:

  • Power supply: 24 VDC +/-10%

  • Control mode: continuous

  • Maximum rise time: 15 us

  • Maximum fall time: 10 us

  • Control: M12 connector

  • Connector pinout: 1 = 24 VDC, 3 = GND, 4 = PNP

  • Minimum light input voltage: 20 V

  • Rated light input voltage: 24 V +/-10%

  • Maximum light input voltage: 30 V

  • Thickness: 45 mm, or 55 mm with mounting plate

  • Inner diameter: 65 mm

  • Weight: 23.8 kg/m^2 +/-15%

  • Materials: aluminum and filled ABS

  • Diffuser: white PMMA

  • Mounting: four M4 nuts supplied for slot mounting, or four M4x20 screws at the corners

  • Operating temperature: -10 to +40 degC, up to 80% humidity without condensation, no thermal shock

  • Storage temperature: -20 to +60 degC, up to 80% humidity without condensation, no thermal shock

Backlight#

Backlight is an integrated lighting system installed inside the FlexiBowl plane. It illuminates the part from below, creating a strong contrast between the part profile and the bright background. It is especially effective for recognizing silhouettes, outlines, and holes, regardless of part color or surface finish.

Backlight or Toplight?#

Warning

Impact on part recognition

Choosing between Backlight and Toplight significantly affects the recognition strategy:

  • Backlight is ideal for profiles and silhouettes. Parts appear as dark shapes against a bright background.

  • Toplight is required when the application must detect surface details, textures, engravings, or internal features.

When an ARS calibration grid is used, camera calibration must be performed with the Backlight on and the Toplight off, if Toplight is installed.

IR Filter#

The IR filter is an optical accessory mounted on the camera lens. It blocks visible light and lets only infrared radiation pass through. It is required only when an IR illuminator at 850 nm is used. Without the filter, the camera would receive both visible and infrared light, reducing contrast and recognition quality.
